Complete Intersections on General Hypersurfaces
We ask when certain complete intersections of codimension r can lie on a generic hypersurface in Pn. We give a complete answer to this question when 2r ≤ n + 2 in terms of the degrees of the hypersurfaces and of the degrees of the generators of the complete intersection.
متن کاملOn Codimension Two Subvarieties in Hypersurfaces
We show that for a smooth hypersurface X ⊂ P of degree at least 2, there exist arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay (ACM) codimension two subvarieties Y ⊂ X which are not an intersection X ∩ S for a codimension two subvariety S ⊂ P. We also show there exist Y ⊂ X as above for which the normal bundle sequence for the inclusion Y ⊂ X ⊂ P does not split. Dedicated to Spencer Bloch
متن کاملIntersection multiplicity numbers between tropical hypersurfaces
We present several formulas for the intersection multiplicity numbers considered in [3]. These numbers are associated to any dimensional cell of the common intersection of the tropical hypersurfaces. The first formula involves a sum of generalized mixed volumes, and turns out to be equal to the absolute value of the Euler characteristic of some complex toric complete intersection. Another formu...
متن کاملOn Intersection Indices of Subvarieties in Reductive Groups
In this paper, I give an explicit formula for the intersection indices of the Chern classes (defined earlier by the author) of an arbitrary reductive group with hypersurfaces. This formula has the following applications. First, it allows to compute explicitly the Euler characteristic of complete intersections in reductive groups thus extending the beautiful result by D. Bernstein and Khovanskii...
متن کاملAffine complete locally convex hypersurfaces
An open problem in affine geometry is whether an affine complete locally uniformly convex hypersurface in Euclidean (n + 1)-space is Euclidean complete for n ≥ 2. In this paper we give the affirmative answer. As an application, it follows that an affine complete, affine maximal surface in R3 must be an elliptic paraboloid.
